On October 24, 2024, New College proudly hosted its Cantonese 101 Crash Course, an engaging event designed to help residents gain essential Cantonese language skills and immerse themselves in Hong Kong culture.
Participants were greeted by the New College Events, Festivals, and Cultural Team, who were enthusiastic about sharing the beauty of the Cantonese language. This one-hour session was crafted to provide attendees with confidence in using Cantonese in everyday situations, enhancing their social interactions with locals and deepening their understanding of the vibrant culture of Hong Kong.
Led by native speakers, the course included practical exercises and real-time practice sessions, allowing participants to learn common expressions and phrases. The interactive format encouraged questions and discussions, making the learning experience both enjoyable and effective.
With a limited quota of 30 participants, the session fostered a close-knit atmosphere where attendees could practice their newfound skills in a supportive environment. The enthusiasm was palpable as everyone engaged in conversations, practiced pronunciation, and explored cultural insights.
As the event wrapped up, participants left with not only new language skills but also a greater appreciation for the local culture. The event was a fantastic opportunity for residents to embrace their new surroundings and connect with their community.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the Cantonese 101 Crash Course! We look forward to organizing more events that celebrate cultural exchange and learning in the future. Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to engage and connect!
